I am listening, but have to admit that I am disappointed.  Not living up to my expectations.

After a few listens - I'm really digging this album.  I think the first 6 or 7 songs are really good.  I'm especially liking "Free".  My 20-month old daughter says "dance" and starts dancing to it which is especially cool!

I really like Free, also, as well as Hello Hurricane.

Actually,I appreciate that they are going to be releasing the albums one after the other. This excerpt is from Wikipedia:

On April 22, 2009, the band announced that instead of one studio album, they had actually been at work on 4 albums-worth of material, and had decided to release them one after another. Each will be released separately, starting with the first one on November 10, 2009, titled Hello Hurricane.[33][34] The album to follow it will be called Vice Verses and will be released at a yet-to-be determined time in 2010.

I love that the band is back to their indie roots, and have the freedom to create their art without any restrictions from record labels, and own the rights to their music. Makes it that much more worth supporting.

I deleted my last post in regards to this album becasue I believe myself to be too critical.  Spoiled may be a better word.  I say 'spoiled' because I think I must LOVE every song.  Hello Hurricane has all the elements that I love about Switchfoot.  It is fine to have a favorite album, but like Jars of Clay, it is near impossible to pick out ONE FAVORITE album from Switchfoot.

As to the song, Free.  Love it!  Epic, panoramic melody.  AWESOME.

Needle and Haystack Life is my favorite. Mess Of Me is great too.
The title track Hello Hurricane's content is very very expected.
