Someone recently (a few years ago) gave me like 10 much afraid vinyls unopened.
I sold most of them on ebay for $25 ish.
I kept two.
I listen to most of my favorite albums on vinyl. So one of my copies is unopened, and the other one gets played regularly.

I want to start collecting vinyl, but it's so hard to find places where I live to get 'em. Ebay seems the best bet. |

Having used to be a DJ complete with my own pair of Technics 1210s, I have to say that vinyl is increasingly overrated. It's big, bulky, a pain in the butt to store (I had to make my own shelving for to keep my records on), there's only one place you can listen to it, recording your collection onto the computer so you can listen to it on your iPod is time consuming and will never ever sound as good as a CD, and its so damn expensive!
So, my advice would be to really consider long and hard why you want to invest in a vinyl collection. It is still a dying format, after all.

For the first time since the 70's, vinyl sales have actually increased by 20% in the UK in 2006 from 2005.

Well, I have lots of vinyl, but not because I think it's of better quality. I have lots of albums that are not available on CD or that are just way cheaper on vinyl than on CD. Mostly Jesus Music or 80's Christian rock. And I'm a collector. I also have lots of vinyl albums that I never play because I have the music available on CD or .mp3.

I assume your 80's Christian rock is bought second hand? That would explain why you find it cheaper than CDs, but not for new releases, which I know are generally more expensive because I'm interested in how the format is going, being an ex-collector.
I used to think that being able to handle vinyl, seeing it at work on the turntable and all that made it a better experience than CD, especially from a DJing perspective. I'd almost convinced myself that vinyl actually did sound better and 'warmer' as well, but that's all rubbish. After enough use (and it doesn't take much use at all), you quickly lose any definition in the bottom end, and the crispness in the top, and vinyl crackle is just annoying. When I began selling my collection, I started recording mp3s of some of my favourites, but quickly lost interest because there's little point saving it in a lossy format (or even as FLAC or wav) when the original source is a turd.
That's all from my own experience of course

I just missed the 70s by an inch! I was born in the 80s so all my vinyl is second-hand. 
The newest LP in my collection is a rare Brazilian release of Petra's Unseen Power from 1994 (even though the album was released in 1991). The sound quality of that album is absolutely horrible.
Perhaps one day I will buy Much Afraid or perhaps MuteMath on vinyl, but those are not on my top priority list.

I recently started collecting vinyl after getting a Crosley turntable for Christmas. I've been checking around a couple of used record stores in my area looking for the Much Afraid vinyl, but to no avail. I remember buying MA the day it came out at Family Christian Store (9/17/97? I still remember the date for some reason) and they had a display with MA on vinyl for sale. Wish I would have picked one up, but I didn't have that much forsight at age 13, apparently.
I'll keep checking ebay, though.

I just won Much Afraid on ebay. This got me thinking. I own several Van Halen, Beatles, and other iconic albums. I'm thinking seriously about buying frames for some and displaying them in my movie room. I've been wanting to do it for a while, as it's cooler to display them rather than keep them hidden on a shelf.
