I just discovered Wilco, Bright Eyes and Modest Mouse! Wow! I can't believe that I have been missing out on such great tunes. Out with the mainstream, in with music that has soul. Are there any similar bands that I should check out? Or any comments on these bands?

Wilco is a great band, and amazing live. I like what I have heard from Modest Mouse, and not to familiar with bright eyes, but I do love Now Its Overhead, same label as Bright Eyes.

My go-to bands in this sort of popular-but-not-on-the-radio alternative genre are: Nada Surf, Spoon, Death Cab for Cutie, Guster, My Morning Jacket, M. Ward, Eels, Vampire Weekend, Elliott Smith, Band of Horses, and Grand Archives.

Those are some bands that might be worth checking out along the lines of the groups mentioned.

Also, Bright Eyes members did a project with My Morning Jacket and M. Ward called Monsters of Folk. Highly recommended.
