My first thought was: Are you *%#@&*! kidding me? I mean, I know his intentions are good, but, don't you like... have to accomplish something? Maybe an authentic Peace deal?

Then I remembered... oh yeah, terrorist Yasser Arafat has also won the Nobel Peace Prize.

Now I realize that the Nobel Peace Prize has lost all credibility and significance, and has demeaned the stature of the once lofty honor.

I know. That's insane. Wasn't he nominated so many weeks after he was in office? That's what I heard. What for though??

Yeah, this certainly has caused quite a commotion.  Conservatives have their panties all in a twist, and even most liberals had to raise their eyebrows a bit.

He was nominated a couple weeks into his term I believe, but he was awarded the prize just recently, so he wasn't given the prize based on two weeks, but rather the last year.

Personally I think our boy Dan should have won it for his work in the Blood:Water

I love the guy but this really does seem too soon. I have little doubt that helping achieve world peace will eventually be among his greatest legacies, but it's almost like awarding the Lombardi trophy at the beginning of the NFL season.

His response, saying that it is a call to action, is great as long as that's what actually happens. It's hard to hear those sorts of things and not be cynical, I guess.

I really like Obama the man, and I would love to see his dreams of world peace come true. But come on now: the Nobel Peace Prize? Really? Since when were these awarded for 8 months of good intentions?

AMEN! I agree. People have done nobler things than make promises that they might or might not have kept.

What's he supposed to do when offered such a prestigious award? People are making sound like he had a say in it!

Even Obama was surprised as he got something he didn't deserve!

Getting something one doesn't deserve - sounds familar from somewehere...Hmmm!

That's God's mercy. Much different from the Noble Peace Prize.

Very true but why should we villify Obama for something he has no control or say over.

The prize was given freely and without conditions.

I'm not sure anyone here would reject such an offer either!

Most of the criticism I've heard is directed toward the committee who gave it to him.   I suppose some of the extreme wingnuts might somehow make it an attack on Obama.

Anyway, if someone wants to give me an undeserved 1.4 mil, I'll take it.

I thought it was assumed that the ire was directed at the Prize committee. We learn now that 3 of the 5 were initially opposed to Obama getting it but later caved to the will of the Chair of the committee.

It is tradition that the cash prize is donated to charity. Except for Arafat... I think he used his to make more suicide bombs.

-Extreme wingnut.

I couldn't have said it better myself, thanks...
