David Crowder Band is probably my second favorite band, but I find myself less excited than I thought I would be about "Church Music", their new album which will release on September 22.

First, I didn't much like the title, "Church Music".  Then I didn't like "Alleluia Sing", one of the tracks which I got for free with a concert ticket pre-order.  It sounds surprisingly generic for a creative band like DC*B.  Next I looked at the track listing, and I thought it just looked like a listing of hymns and worship songs (yeah, I know they're a worship band, but that was my reaction).  Finally, the first single is a cover of "How He Loves" which is a popular worship song, but I find the lyrics awkward (I'm not a musician or songwriter, though, so what do I know?).

I'm hoping my concerns will be unfounded, and "Church Music" will be a surprising delight.  Just as Jars had their reasons for exploring 80s pop with TLFBTE (which I'm enjoying more as time goes on - I liked it from the start, too, BTW), I'm sure DC*B has their reasons for exploring music within the church.

I'm a lot more excited about "Hello Hurricane", the new Switchfoot album that will release in October.

I'm happy to wait and to be happily surprised.  I hope it's better than "Remedy"; that album hasn't aged too well for me.  I listen to "Illuminate" and "A Collision" much more often.

Agree, Illuminate is better than Remedy.

I think Church Music is a hilariously appropriate title, and I think How He Loves is an amazing song, though I do prefer the original version by John Mark McMillan - check it out at http://www.myspace.com/johnmarkmcmillanworship

yeah, don't like the songs i heard. they're just not me. i know im crazy for only liking to christian artists, jars of clay(1st favorite artist, always will be) and jeremy camp. i neeed to give other artists a chance, but that's pretty hard for be i just always doubt they'll be as good as these two.

I have to admit that I think about the David Crowder Band's music much the same as I do about Chris Tomlins.  Repetitive and lacking any depth.  Yet, much of the 'modern' worship music is this way, in my opinion.

I tend to agree, but I lead music for the youth on Wednesday nights, and the occasional DCB song is ok.  I don't mind a little candy once in a while as long as I get my meat and potatoes as well.

I have to go on record and say that Church Music is above-and-beyond my expectations.  EXCEPTIONAL!!  I couldn't resist the hype and purchased this cd.  Highly recommended!!

(Last half of the album is better than the first.  IMO)

I dislike most modern worship music - find it dull, repetitive, and lacking in personality - but I don't lump the DCB into that category at all. Their lyrics are sometimes simplistic, but I think that the music they make showcases a great deal of personality, ingenuity, and overall desire to express worship in a unique way.

Church Music is a great example of this - perhaps the group's finest album so far - and I wrote a review of it the other day that goes into depth about why I feel this way.
