Hey everyone! Since Jars of Clay is celebrating their 20th anniversary this year, I thought it'd be fun for us to put together a little 20th anniversary project of our own...maybe a compilation of covers or something along those lines? If we get permission from the band to put it on Noisetrade, maybe we could donate any and all proceeds to Blood:Water.

+++

UPDATE 2/21

Hi everyone!

We are moving forward with this project! Thanks so much to everyone who has offered to participate. If you haven't yet reached out to us, please send an e-mail to jarsofclayfans {at} gmail [dotcom].

The deadline for submissions is March 23rd. When you make your submission, please send it in the highest quality possible - preferably as a 16 bit, 44.1 KHz (e.g. CD quality) wav file. To do so, you may have to use a file transfer website like WeTransfer (https://www.wetransfer.com).

The list has been updated with the latest info on submissions:

Some have asked whether we want to ensure that every album is represented on the project. While that would be nice, I'm not going to force anything. The planning document is more or less for people to take a look and see which songs have already been "spoken for." This is just an attempt to limit it so that we don't end up with 12 versions of Flood. If you see one of your songs on the list multiple times, you might want to consider a different one, but you don't have to! Repeats are fine if you've got your heart set on a particular song.

Thanks again, everyone! I look forward to hearing your unique takes on classic Jars songs. This is shaping up to be a fun little project.

- Mike

Well, first we need to reach "critical mass" as far as contributions go. I'd love to make it at least a 10 track album, even if it's 5 people covering 2 songs each.

So maybe let us know if you're interested in covering a song or two, and which songs you want to take! Since it's a "20th Anniversary" project, let's try to get a decent representation of their albums - nobody wants to listen to 10 covers of Love Song for a Savior [wink]

Also, at some point we'll need someone to create artwork for the project. Anyone interested in doing that?

This is a great idea! Given how much they've reimagined their OWN music through the years, imagine what the fans could offer back. Pretty cool.

I'd love to do anything off of Who We Are Instead. Only Alive, Show You Love, Faith Enough or Amazing Grace preferred.

I'd love to contribute! I'd do Boy On A String or maybe Needful Hands... I also know of a fellow Jars fan/brilliant artist who'd probably love to do some artworks!

Hi everyone! Sorry for the lack of a follow-up so far. Personal life's been busy, you know the drill.

Anyway, I've compiled a list of potential contributors, which can be viewed here: http://goo.gl/M9diUA

If you'd like to contribute (whether you're already on the list or not), please read the document and follow the directions to receive communication about the submission process. Thanks!

What kind of timeline are we thinking?  When would submissions be due for review, etc?

No timeline has been decided yet, but I'm thinking it'd be good to set something here within the next couple of months.

Maybe we could shoot for a release on "Jars of Clay Day," April 7th? (Get it, 4/7?)

So is this still a go?  Deadline is March 23rd, correct?  I haven't heard any recent updates.  We're putting the final touches to our submission and will be sending it this weekend.  Looking forward to everyone's interpretation and covers of the songs.

I tried to email to arrange sending my submission but didn't receive a reply. Is it too late?

Ahhhhh! I apologize, everyone. I was extremely busy last week and this week with school work so I wasn't able to give this project the attention it deserves.

Fret not! I'm announcing an extension, and a post will appear on the website tomorrow with complete instructions about the new deadline and the submission process. Stay tuned.

It is most definitely NOT too late. We'd love to have you participate in this project!

Mike, how can not-musically-inclined people like me be involved? Cover art? Tell me how I can help!

Help with cover art would be wonderful. If you cook something up, send it over to jarsofclayfans {at} gmail [dotcom] - the goal is to get as many people involved as possible, so you and everyone else is encouraged to contribute!

Hi Mike,

I can contribute an album art idea:

I was going to take a photograph of a walkman/cassette player with the JOC self-titled cassette close-by, beside a computer playing Inland. The image represents the fans listening to music through various formats over the past 20 years.

In the middle is the label "20 Years"

Sadly, I couldn't access a tape player to photograph :-(

Any takers?

I love the idea! Or even just an iphone (or ipod, or another comparable music player) with the music app open to Inland sitting next to the cassette, since they're roughly the same size [smile] Could you pull something like that off?

(And just a reminder to everyone else: the deadline for song submissions is tomorrow! Click here for info: http://jarchives.com/site/2014/04/10/jarchives-fan-project-submissions-due-tomorrow/ [wink]

Hi Mike, what's the status of this project? Did all the tracks get submitted?

The status is pending, but guaranteed! Ha.

When I'm not helping with Jarchives, I'm a youth pastor / worship leader. As you can imagine, I was pretty busy over the last couple of weeks [smile]

The good news is that we have a number of stellar submissions! The entire project will be somewhere in the ballpark of 10-15 songs. Sit tight...it's on its way soon!

Glad to hear that this project is en route, thank you for everything Mike!! Do the boys know about it? I think that it would be a cool surprise. Maybe a free stageit show to see their reactions and chat with them???

Hi Mike,

any news on the fan album?  Are you planning on releasing it around the time of the Jars 20 album?

Yes, sorry everyone...this project hasn't been abandoned, it just got put on the backburner for a bit. We will be releasing it very soon, most likely before Jars 20 is out.

It's happening, it's happening! I promise! [smile]

Life happens, back to school stuff happens, Jars 20 happened. The good news is that we've actually amassed more music since the official deadline, so it should be worth the wait. This project will be released soon and it will be a super fun listen.

Right now, I'm waiting for the Jars 20 celebration weekend to pass. Once things die down a little, once the initial buzz of a new album starts to wear off, then we'll be putting it out.

I apologize for this being delayed to many times. Once it was finally ready to go, Jars 20 was upon us and I didn't want there to be confusion between the two projects. I really do believe that it's best if we wait a little while longer...

Mike, whatever happened to this little project?  Did it get squashed because of legal issues?  Or did it become too big to manage?  Just curious.  It sounded like an interesting idea.  Curious to hear fan versions of their Jars' favorites.
